Marpool School Open Garden Day.

Exmouth in Bloom have had a few interesting visits this Summer.  The Open Garden Day at Marpool Primary School, here in Exmouth, was the first. It is organised on Forest School lines and it is an amazing achievement that the school has set up this well-used outdoor learning space.

It has everything….. an orchard, soft fruit cages, vegetables, herbs, flowers, compost making,  food recycling from the kitchens (which is also made into compost), plants for insects, plants for birds, a pizza oven, hedge layering, goats,  chickens, a low ropes course, a story area, a sensory area and an enormous pond.
The produce grown there is used in the school kitchen and  when there is a glut, produce may be frozen, bottled or made into jam and chutneys for sale at the school farm shop, or whizzed into delicious smoothies for the children.
The vision of the Headteacher and the staff who have guided this project is incredible. The children clearly love their garden and at the end of school were reluctant to leave the area.

How wonderful to have the opportunity to be educated in this incredible environment.
