Today was Winter Planting Day….. and what a great day.
A little rain before dawn and very windy but everything ran like clockwork. The early morning crew, Barbara and Bill, Peter and Pauline, Anne and Marion brought wheelbarrows and the trolley from the shed and were in perfect time for Simon Boyce to deliver our plants and then sorted them all according to Marion’s planting plans. Then Elaine’s volunteer time sheet kicked in with teams arriving at staggered times, collecting their plants, bulbs and plans and disappearing off to fill boats, beds, planters and troughs.
Gerry and Rich ferried plants to teams at boats in ‘farther flung’ areas. 28 volunteers this morning and all finished by 10.30. Great camaraderie. Great team work with everyone helping each other to get the job done.
Thank you to the local resident who donated extra plants and bulbs to us and to everyone who helped in any way, shape or form. We look forward to seeing all the colours develop over the next few months and we cross fingers for some sunshine and less wet weather please!
(Apologies that not all volunteer helpers were photographed today)
