‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ groups, known as IYNs aim to bring members of the community together to make a positive change to the place in which they live, work or spend their leisure time.
Groups are asked to focus on three main themes – community participation, environmental responsibility and gardening achievement.
While groups are not judged against each other they are all visited by britain in Bloom experts who assess them, give feedback and offer helpful advice.
The idea is to extend the ‘in Bloom’ ethic to to areas that have been neglected or to new areas that aspire to improving their local environment.
The Neighbourhood awards are non-competitive, welcoming groups taking the first steps to community regeneration and based on the assessment visit, each group will receive an RHS ( Royal Horticultural Society) certificate of achievement ranging from Grade 1 Establishing to Grade 5 Outstanding.
11 of Exmouth’s IYN entries were assessed to be Outstanding this year,
2 more, narrowly missing out on the top grade, received Level 4 Thriving.
Huge congratulations go to them all.
If you know of, or are starting a Community Project to improve your locality in Exmouth, do contact Exmouth in Bloom and consider entering it as an IYN in 2023.
