Even though the 2021 Britain in Bloom campaign is over, we have already started planning the 2022 Campaign. The introduction of a new mid-month workparty is part of this.
At this time of year our focus is on clearing ‘annually’ planted areas ready for our Winter show. We over-winter what we can for next year, and also share plants and seeds where possible with the Community.
Today we made a start, in wonderful sunshine, on the ‘Wavy bed’. The Pinto Geraniums have all been saved from the Wavy Bed and the Rudbekia and Echinacia have been tidied. Local Flower arrangers benefitted from some of the Agapanthas seed heads,
We cut back the dead grass of the Stipas (Pony Tail Grass) to encourge new growth.
‘The Verge’ area too got a trim back to reveal the beautiful cobblestones. The Osteospernums there are in glorious full bloom again after being ‘severely’ deadheaded back in August.
A knight in shining armour, Michael, came along from EDDC Streetscene and collected our gardening waste to go for recycling.
And for the first time since the pandemic, a group of us went for a ‘cuppa’ in the Powder Monkey garden afterwards. A real treat to have some social time and a chance to find out more about some of our new volunteers and for them to know more about us.
Our most recent recruit, Valerie, joined Les and Jacquie, Barbara and Bill, Linda T, Wendy and Richard B who were all there today and who are also relatively new to the ‘Blue Team’.
Welcome to you all…..and many thanks of course to the ‘old hands’ too.
