The South West in Bloom awards ceremony was held in the magnificent venue of Truro Cathedral on 3rd October. Bloom groups from Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall joined together to celebrate their year and hear the results of the judging which was held in July and August.
Having won the St Bridget Cup in the Large Town category last year, Exmouth in Bloom was in the Champion of Champions category this year, along with Truro, Torquay and Sidmouth.
We are thrilled and proud to announce that our entry was not only awarded GOLD but also the Champion of Champions Trophy.
In the Discretionary Awards, Exmouth’s Bystock Pools also won the Sutton Seeds Cup for Outstanding Nature Conservation
Littleham Primary School Gardening Club was runner up in the Clem Preece Memorial Trophy for Outstanding School Effort.
In addition Exmouth ‘s Station Concourse area was nominated for The Bruford Cup for the best non municipal Horticultural Display.
East Devon District Council was nominated for the London and Manchester Trophy for outstanding contribution to an environmental initiative.
Exmouth in Bloom was nominated in the SW Tourism Trophy for the best Portfolio which shows the work accomplished in the last year. The portfolio can be viewed on the website www.exmouthinbloom.org.uk
The beautiful new murals behind the long Wavy Bed near the LED Leisure Centre were nominated for the Dee James Trophy for Art in the Landscape.
Bystock Pools was also nominated for the Conservation and Protection of Rural England award for the Best Environmental Project.
And finally Exmouth Brownie, Connie Browning won 2nd place in the 7-11 age group for the SW in Bloom Painting competition, judged by Lady Emma Fellowes, with the theme ‘ The Incredible Edible Garden’
