What a wonderful day we had with the S.W in Bloom judges, Christine Fraser and Derek Beer on Monday, showcasing all the work we have done in Exmouth in this past year. After browsing the display of work
and a Powerpoint presentation, we set off into Manor Gardens, where the Deputy Mayor met us and the Town Crier rang his bell to welcome the judges and start the tour
Sharon Scott with other members of the EDDC Streetscene team, led us around the beautiful beds planted by the schools and showed us the sensory garden area and the fabulous carpet bedding sponsored by Stuart Line Cruises to celebrate their Golden Anniversary.
We headed to the seafront and investigated the stunning Mini Wildlife Gardens, before visiting SSSI The Maer, where Roger Hamling showed us some plant treasures including the endangered wild Sea Holly patches.
The next stop was the Lifeboat station where the Beach Manager, and representatives from Clean Beach Exmouth and Clean Streets Exmouth spoke of their campaigns.
Then on to Littleham C of E Primary School. A host of excited children there proudly showed us the vegetables and flowers they had grown.
Next stop was the wonderful and inspiring Devon Wildlife Garden with volunteers Liz, Dee and Mike pointing out the Hedgehog Nature trail, dragonflies and bumblebees. What a treat!
We headed into town to see our spectacular ‘Greening the Grey’ transformations. The Swan, the Station concourse, two new boat planters, the wild flower board and the additional colourful planting in The Strand area.
A quick stroll in the Marina and to the historical Rope Walk
and it was back to Sun Lodge for lunch with over 80 guests, including this year’s 100th ‘Friend of Exmouth in Bloom’, who received a framed lifetime membership from Christine and Derek.
What a brilliant day. What great all-round team work!
Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who made the day such a success.
Let’s cross our fingers for GOLD now!
