Last May Manor Gardens and Phear Park were entered in South West in Bloom’s new category called Pride in Parks. Pat Graham (President, Exmouth in Bloom) and Mike Vine, Asst Parks Development Officer for EDDC, showed the judge round in August. Parks have a star-rating system from 1 star to 5 stars maximum. They have to demonstrate community involvement as well as good horticulture.
On Feb 25 at Exeter University the awards were presented by Roger Burnett, Chairman of RHS Britain in Bloom. Phear Park and Manor Gardens were both awarded 5 stars. Mike Vine and new Parks Officer Jane Nicholls received framed certificates, and also plaques to be displayed in the parks. Exmouth in Bloom is delighted for Mike, especially as 2 others of his East Devon parks in Sidmouth also won 5 stars.
