From the Station we moved to the bed in Alexandra Terrace on the sea front. This whole area has been undergoing sea defence work by the Environment Agency, with the junction here due to be re-designed. There will be automatic gates coming completely across the road when storms occur, so preventing flooding in the town. There is uncertainty as to when work on this junction is now due to commence, due to Covid 19 restrictions.
The Alexandra Terrace bed, sponsored by accountants Thompson Jenner, is relatively small but had been swallowed up by bindweed and shrub growth in the last few months. Graham made a start on cutting things back there and the rest of us joined him from the Station area (see Part 1)
The team cleared, weeded and tidied the whole area with Gerry and Linda C. hammering in special signs acknowledging the bird bath and a rose bush, that have been donated to Exmouth in Bloom by past Mayor of Exmouth, Brian Cole and Exmouth Country Markets respectively. A formal presentation of these items is still to be organised.
Streetscene collected a total of 26 bags of our gardening waste today and right on cue the road sweeping machine came along to sweep up the sand from the kerbside. Thanks guys and “Good Work” everyone!
